Maryan is a San Diego native and the daughter of Somali refugees. After studying biology and biochemistry at San Diego State University, she shifted from science to community leadership, driven by a commitment to advancing equity and addressing systemic barriers. She has since worked across nonprofits, political campaigns, government, and philanthropy, investing in communities and reimagining equitable leadership. Currently a student in Penn's Executive MPA program, Maryan is excited to support the people and work in her new home. In her spare time, she loves exploring urban environments, supporting small businesses, and sprinkling dance and play into her life. She may or may not be a dog lover with a cute bestie named Lexi.
